Phono Project 2020 (WIP) (accidental track review) (…Song might not exist…)

The Night Has a Thousand Eyes is a song that was originally part of the Paramount Picture which was also entitled “The Night Has a Thousand Eyes” back in 1948. It is a very nice song, and it is sung wonderfully.

Basically, the phrase “the night has a thousand eyes” (within the context of the song) basically means that the stars in the night sky are like eyes, and you are always being watched; and if you were to lie to your lover, one day they would find out.

The first verse basically hits the meaning of “don’t lie to me, because I will know” home. “Don’t whisper things to me that you don’t mean, For words deep down inside can be seen by the night. The night has a thousand eyes, And it knows a truth from one that lies.” Let’s be honest, the truth is always the best option, and it will usually, always, most likely “set you free”, but if you were to think that all of those stars in the sky are staring down at you, watching your every move, you would want to make the right and truthful decisions too.

In the second verse, I interpret it as a reassurance that he will always love his partner, and that she should not go cheating on him. His love is so deep in fact, it is as bright as the night sky full of stars and a thousand eyes, as you can see here. “The romance may have cooled in the past, My love for you will be everlasting and bright, As the starlit skies, And the wondrous night that has a thousand eyes.” The love that he has for his lover seems to be beautiful and pure. It seems as if he wants a relationship and a commitment built on love, trust, and honesty.

In the third verse, the singer shows that he is basically on cloud nine when it comes to his lover. He has been waiting for her throughout his entire life, for the moment when they could be together forever, which as he puts it is “supreme”, as you can see here. “I’ve lived my life waking through a dream, For I knew that I would find this moment supreme. A night of bliss and tender sighs, And the smiling down of a thousand eyes.

And then he reiterates the last few lines of “A night of bliss and tender sighs, And the smiling down of a thousand eyes. The night has a thousand eyes.”, because, once again, that is what his whole life has been leading up to. I don’t know why they would be sighing if this is a happy moment of supremacy, but who am I to judge.

In any case, it is super sweet that he just wants to have a pure relationship of love and commitment. The song can set the example of the “ideal relationship” as well as it being very catchy as well. There are a few variations of this song, sung by different people, and there is also another song by the name of “The Night Has a Thousand Eyes” by Bobby Vee, so try not to get confused (even though that song is also amazing as well).
