Passion Play Pandemonium

Ladies and Gentlemen. Boys and Girls. Children of all ages. Today I bring you a very sad tale. You all know of the somewhat deadly virus that has been going around recently, but its effects have gone too far this time. Allow me to explain.

Easter: A time for family togetherness, a time for instilling the thrills of scavenger hunts into the hearts of the next generation, but most importantly it’s a time for both celebrating and remembering the greatest sacrifice and comeback story that has ever happened, also known as the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

How does Easter pertain to the Coronavirus and its effects?

Well, due to the coronavirus sweeping through the world like a plague, it closed most of the world has closed down. This included schools, most businesses, and yes, even churches. You see, every year, the week before Easter, my nondenominational, Bible believing church, Victory Bible Church (Hammonton NJ), we perform a play or a “reenactment” of the Easter story. It’s called the “Passion Play” and it is apparently just a stage play of the movie The Passion of the Christ, but more understandable. You know, it’s “the greatest sacrifice and comeback story that ever happened” that I mentioned earlier.

What our Passion Play is, is a free play that we put on for five days or so. It is a fun little production that my church looks forward to putting on every year, because it’s a fun way to connect with people and make memories, but most importantly it’s one of our biggest out reaches. We have literally done this play every year for the past ten or so years, and this year was the first year that we couldn’t put in on since the ministry first started.

So not only is it sad for us because we’re missing out on one of the most fun times of the year, but because we are missing a big opportunity to inform people of the real and true meaning of Easter and save souls that are heading for Hell when they die because of their sin. (And yes, we are all sinners and have fallen short of the glory of God who were once all destined for Hell [the location]. But now we are just trying to show the world the only way to Salvation, and that is through Jesus.) And usually hundreds of people accept Christ as their Savior after our performances. (and all of that is God’s doing, and we take none of the credit.)

It was supposed to give people hope in this dying world, but since it got cancelled it didn’t give us the chance to tell the people of the hope that they can accept, especially in a time when they need it most. And yes, there are plenty of other ways to give people hope and to spread the Gospel message, and we as a church are doing our best given the current issues of the world; but that was just something the play really reached out to people in a way that I wish we as believers could do more often. You know, instead of tied up in all of the “red tape” that people seem to think comes with being a Christian.

Then again, my church isn’t a “red tape” church like the Catholics, Methodists, Mormons, Jehovah’s Witnesses, or even Baptists. We accept everyone, and most importantly we try to meet people where they are, because we know that no one is perfect, and that we were once like them before too. Even Jesus himself was friends with sinners, the sick, and the outcasts. This play just gave us another chance to show people that.

I guess there is always next year, but that is like so many souls lost, and it’s such a missed opportunity… But now there’s a new opportunity here. Now we can actually help the people in need, now that everyone is in “crisis mode”. I mean, we normally do that anyway, but now we get to do more. Now we can do what God has called us to do.

So maybe this “world ending super virus” isn’t the worst thing after all, especially if it helps us help to save the world as well as giving us a new opportunity to give people hope and to spread the everlasting love of God.

I know that this post may seem a bit long and tedious, but it is the truth, which is something that the world has skewed and perverted.

This is my stance. I will not back down from it, and I will not compromise it.

You all have a wonderful day now, and may you all have a happy belated Easter and Resurrection Sunday. Stay alive out there viewer/ reader.
